The Obidient Movement Worldwide has raised alarm over an alleged plot to frustrate the presidential ambition of Peter Obi ahead of the 2027 general elections.
National Coordinator of the group, Dr. Yunusa Tanko, made the claim at a press conference in Kano on Saturday, accusing the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) of moves to weaken the opposition.
The movement alleged that efforts were underway to deny Obi a viable political platform for the 2027 poll through orchestrated crises and institutional interference.
It claimed the strategy began shortly after the 2023 elections, accusing the APC of fueling internal disputes within the Labour Party to erode Obi’s political base.
According to the group, despite a Supreme Court of Nigeria ruling on the party’s leadership in April 2025, actions by lower courts allegedly undermined the judgment.
The movement noted that Obi exited the Labour Party on December 31, 2025, after prolonged internal crises, and later pitched tent with the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
It further linked rising political tensions to Obi’s growing involvement in the ADC and his engagement with key figures, including Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.
The group also cited recent legal developments affecting the ADC’s leadership, following an Appeal Court ruling, as part of a broader attempt to weaken opposition forces.
Describing the trend as “a blatant scheme to undermine democracy,” the movement warned against what it termed moves towards a one-party state.
It called on electoral authorities and the judiciary to ensure a level playing field, urging Nigerians—especially youths and women—to remain vigilant as the 2027 elections approach.
