Night of Terror in Kagarko: Bandits Snatch Family of Eight as Kidnappings Spiral

By BANNERNEWS Reporter, Kaduna

Fear has tightened its grip on communities in Kaduna State as bandits abducted eight members of a single family in Kurmin-Uwa, near Janjala in Kagarko Local Government Area.

The latest attack came barely 24 hours after 10 residents, including seven family members, were kidnapped in Unguwar Sabon-Titi, Katari, deepening anxiety across the area.

A resident, Ibrahim Shehu, told BANNERNEWS that the assailants struck late Friday night, around 10:23 p.m., storming the village in large numbers and heading straight for their target.

Armed with AK-47 rifles, the bandits reportedly forced their way into a home and whisked away the victims at gunpoint.

Those abducted were identified as members of the Malachy family — father, mother and their six daughters — namely Martha, Ladi, Patience, Lucky, Promise, another Lucky, Inama, and Peter Malachy.

A community leader, who spoke on condition of anonymity, confirmed the incident, saying he raised alarm upon receiving a distress call from the village, located about two kilometres from Kagarko town.

“I quickly alerted security operatives when I heard the bandits had invaded Kurmin-Uwa, but I cannot confirm if they responded,” he said.

He added that contact had yet to be established with the abductors, expressing concern over the persistent wave of attacks on communities in the area.

A security source, however, said he was unaware of the latest incident, noting that operatives had been in the forest since Tuesday tracking bandits’ hideouts around Kachia forest following the earlier Katari abductions.

Efforts to reach the Kaduna State Police Command spokesman, DSP Hassan Mansur, for official confirmation were unsuccessful as calls and messages went unanswered at the time of filing this report.
