NYSC Debunks Castration Claim Involving Corps Member in Kogi

By BANNERNEWS Reporter

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in Kogi State has dismissed viral reports alleging that a serving corps member was castrated, describing the claim as false and misleading.

The rumour, which circulated widely on social media in recent days, sparked concern over the safety of corps members in the state.

Addressing journalists in Lokoja, the NYSC State Coordinator, Mr Femi Osungbohun, urged the public to disregard the report, confirming that the corps member involved is alive, healthy, and actively serving at his Place of Primary Assignment (PPA).

“We have confirmed that the corps member in question is safe and carrying out his duties as usual,” he said, warning against the spread of unverified information capable of causing panic.

The corps member, Obdarekpe Abdusalam Oshiorenua (KG/26A/0133), currently serving at Dangote Cement Factory in Obajana, also refuted the claim.

He attributed the false report to a social media user who allegedly used his NYSC photograph to fabricate the story following a disagreement online.

Describing the allegation as “absolute falsehood,” Oshiorenua said the incident caused distress to him, his family, and the NYSC.

He explained that what began as a minor online exchange escalated into abuse, culminating in the circulation of the false narrative.

The 27-year-old Edo State indigene called for caution in the use of social media, stressing the dangers of spreading unverified claims.

The NYSC reiterated the need for the public to verify information before sharing, noting that the corps member remains safe and unharmed.

The false claim had gone viral last week, alleging that a corps member serving in Kogi State had been castrated.
