Ganduje’s Son Dumps APC Camp, Picks NDC Reps Form in Kano

By BANNERNEWS Reporter, Kano

Abdulaziz Umar Ganduje, eldest son of former National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, has obtained the nomination form to contest for the House of Representatives under the platform of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

Abdulaziz is seeking to represent Dawakin Tofa/Tofa/Rimin Gado Federal Constituency in Kano State ahead of the next general election.

His emergence on the NDC platform is seen as a major political development, given his long-standing association with the Kwankwasiyya movement led by former Kano State governor, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.

A viral video circulating online showed Abdulaziz in a meeting with Kwankwaso shortly after picking the nomination form, where he reportedly discussed his ambition and preparedness for the contest.

The move adds a fresh twist to the enduring political rivalry between Ganduje and Kwankwaso, two influential Kano politicians whose alliance collapsed years ago after dominating the state’s political landscape together.

Despite his father’s prominent role in the APC, Abdulaziz has maintained political distance from the party and openly identified with the Kwankwasiyya movement over the years.

He also drew public attention following a controversial dispute involving his mother, Professor Hafsat Umar Ganduje, whom he reportedly petitioned to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over an alleged failed agreement.

Abdulaziz is now contesting for the same federal constituency seat his brother, Umar Abdullahi Ganduje, sought under the APC in the 2023 elections but lost to a candidate of Kwankwaso’s New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), despite Ganduje serving as governor at the time.
