The Senate of Bayero University, Kano (BUK), has approved the expulsion of 171 students for falsifying their admission credentials.

The decision was reached at the Senate’s 433rd meeting held on March 4, 2026, after deliberating on a report by the Senate Committee on Entry Qualification Irregularities.

The committee had been mandated to investigate cases involving discrepancies in the admission records of students across various departments.

Findings presented to the Senate revealed that the affected students secured admission into the university using falsified academic qualifications.

The university said the act contravenes Section 20.7, Category A (vii) of its General Examinations and Academic Regulations (GEAR), which prescribes expulsion for such offences.

In a related development, the Senate also approved the expulsion of a student of the Department of Civil Engineering, Yusuf Muhammad Sani (ENG/18/CIV/00065).

Sani was found guilty of engaging in physical violence against invigilators during an examination.

The incident reportedly disrupted the smooth conduct of the examination and was adjudged a serious breach of the university’s regulations.

The offence similarly falls under Section 20.7, Category A (vii) of the GEAR.

The university reiterated its commitment to upholding academic integrity and discipline across its campuses.

It warned that violations of its rules would continue to attract strict sanctions in line with established regulations.
